The rebound from the worst of the pandemic prompted a 7.7% increase in gross domestic product from the prior quarter, government statistics agency IBGE said on Thursday, less than the 9.0% median forecast in a Reuters poll of economists.
The rebound means Brazil’s economy is now the size it was in early 2017, after the record second-quarter plunge shrunk it to 2009 levels. It is still 7% smaller than at its peak in 2014.

BRASILIA, Dec 9 (Reuters) - Brazil’s central bank kept its key interest rate at a record low 2.00% on Wednesday, as expected, but gave the first sign it could soon drop its pledge to keep rates lower for longer as inflation expectations converge toward target.
In a statement accompanying the unanimous decision, the bank’s rate-setting committee known as Copom said conditions for forward guidance still hold, and that the economy still requires a large amount of monetary stimulus.

Dec 10 (Reuters) - The Brazilian real jumped on Thursday
after the central bank hinted for the first time its policy
easing cycle could end soon amid a rise in inflation, while data
showed a better-than-expected upward move in October retail
sales.
The real firmed by more than 1% to trade at 5.1120
per dollar, outperforming its Latin American peers.
The central bank's rate-setting committee - known as Copom -
kept its key interest rate at a record low 2.00% and said
conditions for forward guidance still hold, but for the first
time, outlined a scenario where that guidance could be
withdrawn
after the central bank hinted for the first time its policy

BRASILIA, Dec 29 (Reuters) - Confidence in Brazil’s services sector rose in December for the first time in three months, a survey showed on Tuesday, but continued concern over coronavirus means confidence remains below pre-pandemic levels from February.
Services account for around 70% of all economic activity, and they have lagged other areas, such as manufacturing and industry, in recovering from the pandemic-fueled slump. Its recovery is crucial to sustaining wider economic growth.
The Getulio Vargas Foundation’s (FGV) services sector confidence index rose 0.8 points to 86.2 points in December, after two monthly declines had halted the recovery from April’s record low 51.5.
