UPDATE 2-SNS Reaal gets 1.25 bln euro capital injection
By Gilbert Kreijger
AMSTERDAM, Nov 13 (Reuters) - Dutch banking and insurance group SNS Reaal said on Thursday it will get a 1.25 billion euro ($1.6 billion) capital injection from the Dutch state and its controlling foundation after booking a third quarter loss due to fresh writedowns.
The Dutch state will give 750 million euros in Tier 1 securities, while the foundation that owns 54 percent of SNS Reaal shares will inject 500 million euros, SNS Reaal said in a statement.
'This was necessary when looking at market conditions and
capital requirements, which will be increased in the Netherlands as internationally. Economically speaking the time had also come to increase solvency,' Chief Financial Officer Ronald Latenstein van Voorst told reporters.
SNS Reaal shares were down 1 percent at 4.95 euros at 0819 GMT after dropping to 4.65 euros earlier but it was still outperforming the DJ Stoxx European Financial Services index , which was 2 percent lower.
Analysts had already expected SNS to raise capital from its foundation after larger Dutch peers
ING (nyse:

Based on market capitalisation, the 750 million euros is about the same size as the 10 billion euros that ING was given by the Dutch government, asset manager Fred Huibers at Haags Effectenkantoor said.
