Austria's Erste Group Bank AG (EBS.VI) won't have any problems meeting the European Banking Association capital requirements by June, Chief Executive Officer Andreas Treichl said Wednesday, presenting the bank's 2011 earnings.
The CEO said he expects earnings in the first six months of 2012 to be far above the EUR100 million approximate level that the bank needs to meet the EBA's capital requirements.
While the CEO said he views developments in Central and Eastern Europe as positive, there are some problems, namely Hungary, where Erste doesn't expect to make a profit until 2014.
"That is our position in Hungary. There is relatively little reason to expect a growth in loans," he said, adding that there is practically no investment in the country, that the country is heavily indebted and its liquidity situation is not good.
However, he said, "we believe Hungary is on the right path."
