Of course, in lieu of tax cuts or increases in transfers the government could increase spending on current goods and services or even acquire existing real or financial assets. If the Treasury issued debt to purchase private assets and the Fed then purchased an equal amount of Treasury debt with newly created money, the whole operation would be the economic equivalent of direct open-market operations in private assets.
Sfortunatamente tutto questo implica una ulteriore espansione del debito pubblico  Il nostro sistema è money backed by debt, non esiste la "helicopter money" (per ora). Visto il livello già altissimo del debito privato, se vuole perseguire questa strada e avere qualche effetto significativo, il debito/PIL dal 100% deve salire al 200% e molto oltre. Auguri

Notare che nel discorso non ci sono considerazioni sulla complicazione che il dollaro è la moneta di riserva internazionale, e nel 2002 il debito pubblico USA non era in mano agli stranieri (cina) come adesso.
